    White Rock Lake, Dallas

    The White Rock Lake, Dallas in Dallas, Texas, US is an artificial freshwater lake located in east Dallas, Texas. This freshwater lake is used in Dallas for the purpose of drinking water, condenser cooling from a steam electric generating plant and this lake was created due to the damming of the White Rock Creek which currently widens into the lake prior to continuing its journey into the south and emptying into the Trinity River. This lake is known to cover 1,254 acres in the community of east Dallas. Construction on the White Rock Lake started in the year 1910 due to a water shortage all over the city and the construction was over by 1911.


    The Civilian Conservation Corps including the Dallas Park Board started working on developing the shores of this lake into the parkland in order to materialize the residential development of the area.



    The neighborhoods that developed around this lake are known to have recognized as the most desired residential zones in the city and those residential areas include the likes of Lakewood, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills, Old Lake Highlands, Lake Park Estates, and Casa Linda. Since its work as water supplier was substituted by the Lake Lewisville the White Rock Lake, Dallas has come to act as a major recreational lake in the city of Dallas and this lake is surrounded by the White Rock Lake Park featuring 9.33 mile trail for the purpose of hiking, running, bicycling, and the added attractions include the Bath House Cultural Center and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Fishing and sailing in this lake is permitted unlike swimming.

    The legendry White Rock Lake, Dallas is known to host numerous events which also include the White Rock Marathon which for a part of the process is known to run around the lake and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is known to be the primary beneficiary. The flora and the fauna of the White Rock Lake comprises mostly of the catfish, sunfish and the bass. The tourists are sure to encounter the ghostly happenings or stories of a lady or a girl in her early 20s who drowned in a boating accident long time back and she appears every night to ask for help to take her home.
