    Dallas Area Rapid Transit

    Dallas Area Rapid Transit is a Dallas based authority that runs buses on the roads of Dallas. Roadways are the main artery of Dallas through which, both local people and tourists commute. Dallas Area Rapid Transit operates light rail (both surface and under-ground), buses and commuter rail and HOV rails that connect different parts of Dallas and Dallas to the 12 suburb cities. Dallas Area Rapid Transit is the largest operator of light rail in the state of Texas, the USA.

    Dallas Transit System or DTS was the parent concern of Dallas Area Rapid Transit. From 1964 to 1988 this organization served as the publicly owned mass transit in Dallas, Texas, the United Sates. Various streetcar lines and privately owned transit companies were merged together to create this organization of Dallas Transit System. Before, the transit company in Dallas got the name, DTS, its name was Dallas Railway and Terminal Company. At that time Dallas had an extensive line of Streetcar companies.


    On 13th August, 1983, DART or Dallas Area Rapid Transit started operating as a substitute to DTS. People from 15 neighboring cities including Dallas voted for levying 1% sales tax to subscribe this transit system in Dallas. By 1988 Dallas Area Rapid Transit totally undertook the DTS. In 1984, Dallas Area Rapid Transit took the responsibility of running light rail in Dallas. The daily rush of riders of the DART Light Rail touches 58,200. Dallas Area Rapid Transit is the ninth mostly used light rail system. Red Line and Blue Line are the bus transport lines operational in Dallas. Several other projects of the extension of light rail lines are in the pipeline.
